After a late night of packing preceded by Kate's brother Joe's wedding, the two of us set off for Colorado Springs. Nothing particularly exciting. Long drives, good music, better company. That about sums it up. A good night of sleep later, today I got out to ride in the Garden of the Gods. The scenery is nice, but the loop is only about 8 minutes long, and so packed with cars gawking at rocks and swerving across the road that it was a bit trecherous . Kate went for a run, and I spun the loop a handful of times. In hindsight, it probably wasn't the best place to go easy, as the entire road is either climbing or descending. It was winding and fun though, so I suppose that makes it worth it. The best sign is that I didn't feel too sapped by the altitude, but racing will be the real test of that.
Tomorrow is the first day of the Independence Day Grand Prix, and Mikey is coming down from Golden to race withg me. It sounds like he's going plenty fast, which bodes well for our chances in the madison on Wednesday. To be honest, I would just be glad to get to race it, unlike last year, when it was cancelled due to rain delays, firework delays, and then a second bout of rain. Disappointing.
Junior nat's are going on today and tomorrow out here at the OTC, so I'll think we'll go ride a bit at the track, do a few jumps to test gearing and open up, and then watch the racing. All in all, it's great to be out here. The weather is beautiful, the scenery is great, and today marks the start of my full time job (for the rest of the summer, at least) of being fit and fast. Awesome.
